Runs on
iPhone, via Shortcuts
  1. Open the Shortcuts app and find the shortcut under My Shortcuts.
  2. Open the shortcut so you can see its actions.
  3. Tap the Details icon, then turn on Show in Share Sheet.
  4. Tap Done.

Apple’s own guide describes the same switch, and says iOS adds an action at the start of the shortcut that defines the input it accepts. You do not need to build that part yourself.

The icon names shift between iOS releases, so if yours looks different, look inside the shortcut for the control marked as details or settings.

How do I run a shortcut from the Share Sheet?

Pick something in an app, such as a link in Safari, a photo or a file. Tap the Share button, scroll down, and tap the shortcut. A notification shows its progress as it runs.

A shortcut only shows up when the thing you are sharing is something it accepts. A shortcut that takes images will not appear when you share a web page, which is by design and not a bug.

Why is my shortcut not in the Share Sheet?

Nearly every case comes down to one of the four below. Work down the table in order, because the first row is the most common.

What you see Likely cause Fix
Not listed anywhere Show in Share Sheet is off Turn it on in the shortcut’s details
Listed for photos, missing for links The shortcut does not accept that input type Check the accepted types in the shortcut’s details
Missing in one app only That app does not offer the content the shortcut takes Try sharing from Safari or Files instead
Listed, but far down It is buried among your other actions Move it up, as shown below

Apple notes the same last point: if the shortcut is missing, the app may not have content the shortcut accepts.

How do I move a shortcut up the Share Sheet?

Open the Share Sheet and scroll to the end of the actions list. Look for the option to edit the list, then drag your shortcut up. Wording changes between iOS versions, so go by the layout and not the exact label.

This step decides whether you actually use the shortcut. One buried under a dozen apps you never use gets forgotten, and one near the top gets used daily. The wider list of triggers is in every way to trigger a shortcut on iPhone.

How does Grabio use the Share Sheet?

Grabio is built around it. You share a link or a file, tap Grabio, and it works out what you gave it. A link opens a clean downloader in Safari. A file converts on your phone with Apple’s own actions.

That is why the setup above is all Grabio needs. It is a free Apple Shortcut, and the install page emails you a link to add it, with no account to make. The reasoning is in how Grabio works, and a worked example is downloading a YouTube video on iPhone.

Share a caption with a link in it and Grabio pulls out the web address for you. Share a photo and the converter takes it from there, as in converting HEIC to JPG on iPhone.

Share Sheet or Home Screen: which should I use?

Use the Share Sheet when the shortcut needs something to work on, like a link or a file. Use the Home Screen when it runs on its own, like a timer or a message you send every day.

The Home Screen route is covered in adding a shortcut to the Home Screen. If you are still building the shortcut, start with creating a shortcut on iPhone.

How do I take a shortcut out of the Share Sheet?

Open its details again and turn Show in Share Sheet off. The shortcut stays in your library and just stops appearing when you tap Share. To stop one running at all, see turning off a shortcut on iPhone.

Add a shortcut to the Share Sheet on iPhone: FAQ

Where is Show in Share Sheet on iPhone?

Open the shortcut in the Shortcuts app and tap the Details icon. The Show in Share Sheet switch is there. Turn it on and tap Done.

Why does my shortcut not appear when I tap Share?

Either the switch is off, or the thing you are sharing is not something the shortcut accepts. A shortcut that takes photos will not show up for a web page.

Can I put a shortcut at the top of the Share Sheet?

Yes. Scroll to the end of the actions list in the Share Sheet, find the option to edit it, and drag the shortcut up. The exact label changes between iOS versions.

Does Grabio need the Share Sheet?

That is how it is meant to be used. You share a link or file to Grabio, and it takes it from there. You can also run it from the Shortcuts app, but that is slower.

Do I need an app to add shortcuts to the Share Sheet?

No. Shortcuts is built into iPhone. Grabio is a Shortcut, not an App Store app, so nothing extra is installed.

Will it work in every app?

No. An app only offers the Share Sheet content it supports. If a shortcut is missing in one app, try sharing from Safari or Files.
